A MEDICAL ANALOGY FOR CORPORATE TURNAROUND METHODOLOGY
My highly acclaimed approach is unique, based on a
simple medical analogy that makes intuitive sense and therefore is easy
to understand and adapt to your own particular financial situation.
Corporations today are barraged by environmental changes, which are
analogous to viruses. Globalization, terrorism, the rise of Asian
economies, and rapidly changing technologies are constant environmental
threats that can make your company sick – unless it has the requisite change management tools that it needs to avoid succumbing to a fatal illness.
Just as you would consult with a medical doctor if you were ill,
so you should consult with a turnaround doctor when your company is
ill. I,
Dr. Mike Teng, am the "turnaround doctor" who has the extensive
real-world experience and solid academic expertise that you need to
completely transform your business from an ailing, weak patient to a
robust and healthy corporation that's ready to meet challenges of the
changing marketplace head-on.
So how does my corporate turnaround methodology work? First, you
must identify the specific virus that's attacking and weakening your
company. It could be increased competition, globalization, incompetent
management, changes in consumer behavior, uncontrollable economic
factors, or other common "viruses" that are present in today's
marketplace. The attacks on 9/11 and the threats of global terrorism,
for example, are viruses that have infected hundreds of thousands of
companies in the U.S. Only once the type of virus has been identified
can we determine which of my three treatment phases (or a combination
thereof) will be able to cure what ails your company once and for all.
Treatment Phase 1: Surgery
Restructure your organization to improve cash flows and cut unnecessary
expenses that are contributing to your corporation's illness.
Treatment Phase 2: Resuscitation
Inject new income streams and boost existing sales to increase your
profits and help your company on the road to recovery.
Treatment Phase 3: Nursing
Strengthen your corporate culture (your company's immune system)
through teambuilding for sustained, long-term growth that will leave
your competitors far behind.
Do these three treatment phases seem like obvious
steps? Perhaps they are. But the key to financial success lies in
applying these strategies correctly and at the right moment. A doctor
may have all the right medicines, but if he doesn't use them in the
correct combination and at the right time, the patient may die. The
principles of corporate turnaround methodology are the same, as I have
proven time and time again by implementing my own successful turnaround
methodology within multinational corporations in Asia and around the
world.
Performing just one of these treatment phases in isolation may
provide a temporary cure, but your company will soon go into remission
and perform even worse than before if you haven't completely addressed
the root of the problem. To
be successful, a turnaround methodology must be holistic and address
both strategic and operational issues in the short and long term.
As a top manager, you must not only cut costs, but also increase
revenue and change the corporate culture. Only by carefully balancing
and managing the three treatment phases will you be able to make your
company well again so that it can dominate the marketplace. Find out how!
WESTERN AND EASTERN APPROACHES TO MEDICINE – AND CORPORATE TURNAROUND METHODOLOGY
This medical analogy is useful and appropriate for
understanding my proven approach to corporate management, but we can
take it a step further by considering the philosophical differences
between Western and Eastern medicine. Western
medicine excels at treating acute illness and trauma, much like Phase 1
(Surgery) and Phase 2 (Resuscitation) target the critical corporate
problems of cash flow, expenses, and revenue. The corporate
turnaround methodology used in these phases are systematic,
step-by-step procedures that are effective, but sometimes have negative
side effects. For example, downsizing (which is comparable to
amputation) is quite effective at reducing costs, but its negative side
effects include hurting the morale of employees.
In contrast, Eastern medicine
excels at treating chronic diseases and weakened immune systems, which
manifest themselves in an ailing corporation as a weak, divisive
corporate culture that cannot respond effectively to a changing
environment. Phase 3 (Nursing) provides the long-term care and
balance that will restore sustained optimal health to your
organization. This is accomplished by restoring and strengthening your
company's corporate culture (the immune system) for long-lasting
resilience to the corporate viruses that are attacking your company.
When the unique yet complementary strengths of Western and Eastern
medicine are made to work together, as when all three Phases of my
corporate turnaround strategy are working in harmony, there is a
powerful, synergistic drive toward reestablishing your company as an
industry leader or, in our analogy, reinstating good health that will
remain with you in the long run. Begin applying the three treatment phases to your company today!
DON'T IGNORE THE EARLY SYMPTOMS OF A SICK COMPANY
Many well intentioned managers ignore the early
symptoms of their company's illnesses, assuming that the problems will
go away if left untreated. But these individuals are gravely mistaken
in delaying the creation and adoption of an aggressive treatment plan.
Much like people may think they are immune and invulnerable to
illnesses, top business executives often erroneously believe that their
companies are stronger than the external forces that attack them every
day. Unfortunately, this denial can be extremely costly. By the time
these managers recognize the extent of the problem, the illness has
already advanced significantly and the company is quickly approaching
bankruptcy. Learn how to avoid falling into this trap!
The sooner you recognize the extent
of the significant problems facing your company and the true causes for
your company's underperformance, the faster you will be able to apply
the appropriate treatment phases (Surgery, Resuscitation, and Nursing)
to correct the problems and bring your company back to its former
robust self. It is critical to have an adequate plan in place
for recognizing the early warning signs and symptoms of a sick company.
After all, prevention is the best medicine.
Once managers recognize the symptoms, they too often respond with staff
layoffs that haven't been thought through carefully enough. Yes,
troubled companies need to cut cost to the bones, but they must do so
without injuring the nearby supporting muscles and vital organs – the
team players who make the business possible. An effective turnaround
doctor cannot ruthlessly fire workers to reduce overhead, because
downsizing is equivalent to amputation in that its negative side
effects worsen morale. If you must let workers go, you must do so in
such a way that you create an incentive for your best workers to stay
on until the company's health begins to demonstrate significant
improvements. How? It's all laid out in my Corporate Turnaround Methodology packet.
SURFING THE ASIAN TIDE
In recent years, we have seen a new culprit for the
underperformance of many U.S. corporations. A quick read of any
business journal makes it clear that an increasing number of American
business executives and academics are justifiably alarmed by the U.S. economic slowdown and the concurrent rise of Asian economies.
Recent and projected trends are marking a prominent shift from
American-dominated markets to Asian-dominated business. And declining
prices in the U.S. housing market and an ever-increasing U.S. budget
deficit seem to show that these changes will affect the economy in our
lifetime – not some distant future.
Those companies and industries that learn to "surf the Asian tide" will
be able to reap the benefits of this shift to the East, expanding into
new markets and wooing new customer bases. Those that fail to recognize
the economic importance of Asia early-on will miss the opportunity of a
lifetime to expand their operations. And, worse yet, those companies
that try to expand into Asia but do so without adequate preparation or
a clear understanding of the pitfalls that await American companies
overseas are destined for failure.
As a leading Asian CEO who has worked
for U.S.-owned multinational corporations, I have a comprehensive
understanding of the differences and similarities between American and
Asian culture. I am familiar with the most common errors that
U.S. corporations commit when the first enter the Asian markets, and I
am eager to help you avoid making those mistakes. My corporate
turnaround methodology materials are packed with practical tips and
guidance that you can begin applying immediately, ensuring a smooth transition as you begin or expand your Asian operations.
Furthermore, my materials will give you the language tools you need to be able to communicate effectively
with your existing and prospective Asian business partners and
customers. Because my materials are bilingual, you can read along the
corporate turnaround methodology in English and Mandarin. You'll quickly and easily acquire the Mandarin business vocabulary that you need to become a key player in the growing Asian markets.
HOW THE CORPORATE TURNAROUND METHODOLOGY WILL HELP YOU
Anyone can give advice about how to turn around an
ailing company or expand into Asia, but can they point to successes in
their own experience? I can. I have led the turnaround of many troubled organizations and brought some back from the brink of bankruptcy.
I have more than 27 years of corporate experience in the Asia Pacific region and I have spent 17 years working as a CEO for multinational, local, and publicly listed companies, including ten years as the CEO for a US MNC based in Singapore.
Many prestigious professional institutions have honored me as a
"Fellow" in recognition of my extensive professional experience and
strong academic background. I was named one of the top five authors of 2006 on BuildYourOwnBusiness.com. Likewise, my work has been praised in a variety of professional publication, television shows, and regular programs.
I am committed to harnessing my experience and education to help top
business executives like you take charge of their ailing companies. I
have developed an unprecedented Corporate Turnaround Methodologythat contains all the information and guidance you need to avoid bankruptcy and dramatically improve your company's health.
My materials are the only market offerings that are written by someone who has vast experience turning around troubled companies.
Yes, you can find other books on turnaround and transformation, but
they lack the depth and breadth of experience that I am offering to
share with you. And even though I am a highly acclaimed expert, my
writing is never couched in complex, inaccessible jargon. Instead, my
advice and guidance is presented in clear, straightforward language that you can quickly and easily grasp.
In a crisis situation you may not have time to seek help from
long-winded experts or read unnecessarily verbose how-to manuals.
Fortunately, thanks to my background in managing a pharmaceutical
company, I am able to use medical analogies to explain complex concepts
and methods. These analogies draw strong parallels between physical and
fiscal health and are simple to understand, just as you intuitively
understand the basics of how to care for your physical self.
My first book, Corporate Turnaround: Nursing a Sick Company Back to Health, became an instant best-seller
because it was packed with informative and valuable strategies
presented through my simple, powerful, and intuitive medical analogies.
Laudatory responses from business professionals and academics around
the globe helped me realize the extent of the corporate world's demand
for accurate and practical guidance in corporate turnaround methodology.
To that end, I have developed a complete package for Corporate Turnaround Methodology that melds
best practices from the West and the East, soundly based on my personal
and professional experience transforming troubled companies into
industry leaders.
Here's just a short list of what you'll find in this no-nonsense, straightforward bundle of materials:
Simple tools to diagnose the true state of your balance sheet
